1. Panel-Ready Appliances
We are seeing a marked desire for a pared-back and uncluttered aesthetic. Panel-ready appliances are designed to accept custom cabinet panels over the front and blend seamlessly with your cabinets.
This “hidden in plain site” approach creates a truly seamless look with practical benefits. Appliance finishes, for example, follow their own unique trends, from the matte black and white of a few years ago to the deep green, navy, beige, and cream of today to whatever spectrum tomorrow has in store. Panels tend to be more enduring and easier to replace than refrigerators, dishwashers, beverage centers, warming drawers, and other appliances during updates or full-scale renovations.
2. Cabinetry with Character
No one is turning their backs on straightforward Shaker; it’s an enduring classic. That said, we are taking a few steps away from plain and simple and towards more overt displays of personality in cabinetry. Consider adding a touch of grandeur (which, incidentally, works well against the clean palette of panel-ready appliances) with unexpected colors, edge detailing, door insets such as glass or metal, or distinctive custom details.
3. Bolder Veining and Extended Backsplashes
Top kitchen trends for 2025 both eschew subtlety and embrace seamless style. We can see this with bolder veining on countertops. Quartz, for example, is a current favorite, but rather than understated veins, expect wider, more pronounced bands with greater contrast. Natural quartzite with dramatic natural variations is also beginning to take center stage. Both strike a stunning note that resonates throughout your kitchen design.
When it comes to smooth and seamless (much like our panel-ready appliances), one effective and increasingly sought-after design technique involves carrying the countertop up the backsplash. Sometimes referred to as a “countersplash,” the same material is used on both elements, resulting in a continuous surface and a cohesive look.
These two trends can work well together, as the more consistent surfaces allow more daring choices to fully shine without becoming overwhelming, busy, or chaotic.
4. Cabinet Hutches
Typically, upper cabinets are hung 15-20 inches from the countertop. And typically, small appliances, like coffee makers, toasters, or mixers, call this space home. While convenient, countertops can quickly become cluttered. Cabinet hutches present a stylish solution that adds a bit of grandeur as the cabinet extends all the way down to the countertop.
While cabinet hutches do make your countertops a bit narrower, they are ideal for built-in appliances and pantry items when discrete storage is the goal. Extending cabinets to the countertop in a strategic area or two while opting for conventional cabinets in others will help to achieve the right balance.
5. Dark Wood Stains
We are craving warmth. This is a prominent trend in design as a whole and certainly in the kitchen. Darker wood stains, from ebony and mahogany to rich espresso and dark walnut deliver a sumptuous aesthetic embrace. Contrast is key: integrating decadent stains with less saturated elements prevents the space from feeling too heavy and too broody. For example, dark stains for flooring and furnishings (e.g. a kitchen island base) flawlessly complement lighter shades of cabinetry.
