Wallpaper You Won’t Regret Leverage the statement-making versatility of wallpaper with:
MuralsThe earliest wallpaper iterations (circa 200 BC) featured hand-painted landscape scenes. Who would have thought murals would be a hot trend for 2025 and beyond? Contemporary versions often feature nature and floral themes, but some intrepid homeowners opt for anything from large-format geometric designs to vintage road maps to fantasy landscapes.
Particularly well-suited to accent walls or large nooks, a thoughtfully-chosen mural brings color, texture, pattern, and intrigue to a space.
TexturesMuch of the appeal of wallpaper comes down to its ability to deliver texture in a way that paint just cannot. It adds interest and variety, keeping spaces from feeling monotonous or stagnant. Sophisticated products may be soft and silky, reeded, beaded, and 3D. There are even acoustic options, which have a “nap” that helps dampen sound waves.
Small textures offer a subtle background, working well for accent walls and smaller spaces. If you have a bigger room and want to make a bolder statement, opt for large textures. Floor to CeilingApplying wallpaper from floor to ceiling elevates your style, creating a look that is both dramatic and cohesive. Opt for a design that flows seamlessly from surface to surface (florals work well here) to maximize the sense of harmony. A side-effect of a floor-to-ceiling approach is that it draws the eye up and makes the space feel larger. Light colors and subtle patterns can enhance this effect, but don’t be afraid to explore more bold hues and/or patterns.
Half WallsConsider utilizing wallpaper for half walls, either above or below the chair rail or within picture frame molding. This builds visual interest, adding depth and texture, without overwhelming a space. A sophisticated touch, the half-wall approach can make your room feel more intimate or cozy, particularly if you have high ceilings. And if you don’t, pairing a darker lower wall with a lighter wallpaper can create the illusion of greater height.
Nooks and AlcovesIn relatively open and/or very large rooms, you can leverage the versatility of wallpaper to highlight or differentiate nooks and alcoves. Create a striking focal point; add personality and visual interest to wallpapered space and the entire room; and give a sense of purpose to what could otherwise be an awkward spot. Nooks and alcoves often have unique dimensions and/or shapes; wallpaper brings unity to the whole.
Smaller nooks/alcoves tend to benefit from lighter, more subtle colors and patterns, while larger spaces can accommodate a bolder statement. Again, though, explore your options and consult with your designer for the perfect fit.
Bold Color Color is a powerful design tool, helping evoke a certain mood and making a strong visual (and even emotional) impact on the viewer. Whether you want a vibrant focal point or to simply enliven a room, a bold color choice can instantly transform your space, add personality, and balance more neutral elements of the design. While perfect for an accent wall, there is no reason you can’t breathe life into a feature wall. Consider the purpose of your room, and what type of mood/ambience you wish to establish. Bold choices align well with social spaces (e.g. the living room). Bold Patterns If you’re serious about making a statement, think about a bold pattern. Whether geometric, floral, or abstract, a dynamic pattern brings your personality into the space. As with a daring color, an out-of-the-box pattern builds visual interest, creating a focal point that can complement neutral design elements.
You may think that bold patterns are restricted to large areas. Not so. The right pattern will enhance a smaller room without overwhelming it. Many even opt to go ostentatious in spaces as small as a powder room – to exceptional effect.
Mix and Match DesignsFor the truly daring… Mixing and matching wallpaper designs is an art, and when executed well, it adds a highly unique, and very personal, touch. The key to making your one-of-a-kind look work cohesively is to choose wallpapers with complementary colors, combining large-scale and small-scale patterns for balance, and integrating both bold and understated designs. Patterns can be wildly different, but they should tie together. When they do, you transform recessed areas, accent walls, and other spaces.
