You’ve been dreaming of and planning for this – now it’s about to happen. The nerves start to kick in! One of the most challenging parts of undertaking a bathroom or kitchen remodel from an emotional standpoint is the unknown. From start to finish the entire process can be quite the emotional rollercoaster. Not knowing what to expect – or how or when you might be thrown for a loop can be especially daunting.
So, we are offering a little insight into your remodeling timeline, the challenges you might face, and the steps ACo takes to ease the ride.
How Long Will My Bathroom/Kitchen Remodel Take? This is certainly a leading question on homeowner’s minds when they’re about to tackle a remodel. ACo Design & Sales Consultant Mia Farrell says, “We typically frame our journey into three chunks: Design, processing and ordering, and construction. Each phase can take a few months, depending on the project's complexity, how quickly we are to make decisions, and the lead time of materials.”
Let’s cut to the chase. What you’re really wondering is this: “How long will my bathroom or kitchen remodel take?” It depends. Your specific timeline is influenced by a variety of factors, including:
- Scope and complexity of the project. Are you refinishing floors, replacing appliances, upgrading fixtures, and adding a backsplash? Or are you changing the layout of your space, altering the footprint, and tearing down the old to make way for all the new? Your specific goals are one of the leading factors in your timeline.
- Lead time of materials. Elements such as cabinetry and specialty tile can have longer lead times (or more depending on their own set of factors from the supply chain to demand to the complexity of your order). We use our industry expertise to ensure your materials are where they need to be when they need to be – and schedule work accordingly – in an effort to prevent your project from coming to a screeching halt due to unforeseen factors.
- Change orders and unexpected “surprises.” Sometimes, we have to deviate from an aspect of the original plan. We do our best to anticipate the unexpected but without a crystal ball, no one can do it 100% of the time. If it has to happen, at least it happens the ACo Way. Our Change Order Guarantee covers up to $1000 of potentially hidden change orders. A little extra peace of mind is priceless.
- Speed of decision-making. A kitchen or bath remodel involves a myriad of decisions, covering everything from the overall vision to the smallest details that complete it. And it’s hard. Decision-fatigue is real, folks. The more efficiently we complete the design and selection process, the more effectively we can schedule your project and more smoothly we can execute the construction phase. Our experienced team knows how to walk you through the choices, zero in on your goals, and find solutions that work for your home, lifestyle, and budget. (At the same time, don’t feel rushed. This is your)
Expediting Your Project Now, if you’re thinking, “Oh great, people are going to be coming in and out and tromping through my home until the end of time…” No. We won’t be doing that, and no, we won’t disrupt your life to the point where you question why you ever wanted a more functional, beautiful space. A great deal of the work takes place “behind the scenes” – and far from your shower, vanity, and kitchen counters.
Front-loading as much as possible in the design and processing/ordering phases sets us up for success when we do come into your home for construction. In other words, what we do before the hammer ever meets the nail is just as important as what we do during the construction phase as far as minimizing disruption and delays.
Change orders, for example, are always going to extend a project, but the ACo Way is designed maintain momentum even in the face of change. Our scope review process includes an onsite review as well as a collaborative meeting with every department at ACo prior to contract signing. This usually minimizes interruption and provides for a smoother construction process.
The goal is to love where you live… But loving where you live while in the throes of demo, dust, construction, and crew is, admittedly, a bit more challenging. ACo takes every step possible to mitigate the impact.
Mia explains, “We try to expedite in areas where we can, or at the very least lessen the frustrations as much as possible. For example, if we aren’t changing the cabinet footprint in a kitchen or bathroom, it’s possible that we can template for new countertops without moving the existing ones. We can keep the sink functioning up to the last minute – not having a kitchen sink is an underestimated inconvenience!”
A Remodeling Process Designed and Built for You Over the years, we have found that the best way to give you a good estimate for how long your bathroom or kitchen remodel will take is to simply get to know you. Listening to your goals, needs, and dreams is as vital as measuring twice and cutting once. This allows us to plan and prepare starting on day 1. We also know remodeling or building a home can be an emotional roller coaster. Our team strives to ease the ups and downs by guiding you through design and installation to ensure you truly love where you live.
